In a home with children or older family members, look for a geyser with a thermostat, an automatic thermal cut-off, a safety valve and a shock-proof, splash-proof body. The Aquator Neo has all of these in a 5-in-1 safety shield and is priced from Rs. 9,780. The Enamour Classic Pro 10L, priced at Rs. 5,899, gives you a multi-function valve, a fire-retardant shell and status lights at a lower price. This guide explains each safety feature, lists which Orient Electric models have it and shows how to set up the geyser for the family.

The safety features that matter, in plain words
• Thermostat. It switches the heating off when the water reaches the temperature you set, so the water does not keep getting hotter.
• Thermal cut-off. This is a second guard. If the thermostat fails and the water overheats, the cut-off stops the heating.
• Safety valve. In a storage geyser, a multi-function valve lets pressure out and stops hot water from flowing back into the supply. In an instant geyser, a pressure release valve and an anti-siphon hole do the same job.
• Shock-proof, splash-proof body. An IPX2 body protects against dripping water. An IPX4 body protects against splashes from any direction. A bathroom needs at least this much.
• Fire-retardant shell. The outer shell resists fire. The Aquator Neo shell is tested to withstand up to 550 degrees C, and the Enamour Classic Pro has a fire-retardant polymer shell.
• Status lights. A light that shows power and heating tells an older person at a glance whether the geyser is on, with no guessing.

Instant geysers: small, with a pressure valve
Instant geysers hold only a small amount of water, so there is less hot water in the unit at any time. They are common in kitchens and wash basins, where children often reach. Each of these has a shock-proof body and a pressure release feature:

Set up the geyser for the family
• Choose a safe water temperature. Hot water burns a child faster than an adult, because a child's skin is thinner. Aim for bath water at about 40 degrees C. If your tank is set at 55 degrees C and tap water is at 20 degrees C, mix about 4 parts hot water with 3 parts cold water to get 40 degrees C. Always add the cold water first, and test the water with your hand before a child steps in.
• Let an adult handle the knob. If your model has a temperature knob, set it once and tell the family. The Ecoswift Pro has a fixed preset temperature, so there is no knob to turn.
• Keep the switch outside the bathroom. Switch the geyser on from outside, and switch it off when you finish. The Aquator IoT lets you switch it on from the app, so the water is ready when an older family member wakes up.
• Check the electrical points. Ask a qualified electrician to check the earthing, the MCB and the wiring. A 2000W storage geyser draws about 8.7 amps and a 3000W instant geyser about 13 amps, so neither suits an ordinary 6 amp socket.
• Look at the lights. If the power light stays on after the water is hot, or the water does not heat, stop using the geyser and read the geyser troubleshooting guide.

Choosing the capacity and the budget
Safety features do not change with the size, so choose the size by the number of people. A 10 litre tank suits one or two people, a 15 litre tank suits a small family, and a 25 litre tank suits four or more. The geyser capacity guide shows how to size a tank, and geyser price in India 2026-27 lists the price of every size. If the budget is tight, the best geysers under Rs. 7,000 and the best 10 litre geysers show the lower priced models.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Which is the safest geyser for a home with kids?
A: Choose a geyser with a thermostat, an automatic thermal cut-off, a safety valve and a shock-proof, splash-proof body. The Aquator Neo has all of these in its 5-in-1 safety shield, with an IPX4 body, and is priced from Rs. 9,780.
Q: Which geyser is best for elderly parents?
A: Look for a simple temperature knob or a fixed setting, clear status lights and an automatic cut-off. The Enamour Classic Pro 10L has a knob and power and heating lights at Rs. 5,899. The Aquator IoT can be switched on from your phone.
Q: What is a thermal cut-off in a geyser?
A: It is a second safety guard. If the thermostat fails and the water gets too hot, the thermal cut-off stops the heating.
Q: What does IPX2 or IPX4 mean on a geyser?
A: It shows how well the body resists water. IPX2 protects against dripping water, and IPX4 protects against splashes from any direction. The Aquator Neo and Aquator IoT are IPX4. The Enamour Classic Pro, Maverick and Instaflo are IPX2.
Q: What temperature should I set a geyser to when children are at home?
A: Aim for bath water at about 40 degrees C. Mix hot and cold water in the bucket, add the cold water first and test with your hand before a child steps in.
Q: Is an instant or a storage geyser safer?
A: Both are safe when they have the right safety features and are fitted properly. Check the thermostat, the cut-off, the safety valve and the body rating on the product page, then have a qualified electrician check the wiring.
Q: Can I switch the geyser on from my phone?
A: Yes, with the Aquator IoT. It has app control and a touch screen, so the water is ready when you need it. Read our guide to a Wi-Fi geyser for how it works.
Q: Should the geyser stay on all night?
A: No. Switch it off when you finish, or heat only when you need it. An app or a timer helps if you want hot water at a set time.
