Electricity is extra. A 5 litre bucket of warm water from an instant geyser, warmed from 20 degrees C to 45 degrees C, uses about 0.15 units, or about Rs. 1.16 at Rs. 8 a unit. A full 10 litre storage tank heated from 10 degrees C to 55 degrees C uses about 0.52 units, or about Rs. 4.19. Instant geysers: light and easy to carry
An instant geyser heats water as it flows, so it needs no big tank. That keeps it small and light. The table shows the weight and size of each model.

Every one of them has a 3000W element. In winter, with tap water at 10 degrees C and the output at 45 degrees C, a 3000W element warms about 1.2 litres a minute, so a 15 litre bucket takes about 12 minutes. That suits a sink, a wash basin or a bucket bath better than a long shower. Read 3L vs 5L instant geysers to choose the size, the best geysers for a kitchen for the five we suggest for a sink, and why you need an instant geyser in your kitchen for the full case.
A storage geyser for the bathroom
If you want to bathe from a tank, the Enamour Classic Pro 10L is the lowest priced 5 star storage geyser, at Rs. 5,899. It has a polymer coated tank, a 5 year tank warranty and weighs 6.6 kg empty, which is light for a storage geyser. It measures 34 x 35 x 38 cm, and the box includes mounting fasteners and a multi-function valve. In winter one full tank gives about 15 litres of warm bath water, enough for one bucket bath at a time. The 15 litre, priced at Rs. 6,399, suits two or three people who share a bathroom. The best 10 litre geysers compares it with the other 10 litre models, and the best geysers under Rs. 7,000 covers the whole low-budget range.
Check the wiring before you buy
Older rented homes often have older wiring, so check it first. The current a geyser draws is its power divided by the voltage. At 230 volts, a 3000W instant geyser draws about 13 amps, and a 2000W storage geyser about 8.7 amps. Neither can run safely on an ordinary 6 amp socket. Ask a qualified electrician to check the socket, the MCB and the earthing before you fit the geyser, and keep it away from the shower spray. If the wiring is old and cannot be changed, the lower load of a 2000W storage geyser is the safer match. 2kW vs 3kW geysers explains the numbers, and how to use a geyser safely in your bathroom lists the safety steps.
What to ask your landlord
• Can I drill the wall? Every wall-mounted geyser needs fasteners in solid masonry. Get permission, and ask where the water pipe and the socket are.
• Who owns the geyser? If you buy it, agree in writing that you can take it with you.
• What is the water pressure? On a higher floor, choose a model rated for it. The Primus handles up to 8 bar, and the other instant geysers handle up to 6.5 bar. Geysers for high-rise buildings explains why this matters.
• Is the wiring recent? Ask for the socket and the MCB to be checked, as above.
Choosing your first geyser
If this is your first geyser, start with how you will use it. Where you need hot water and for how many people decides the type and the size. Our instant vs storage guide compares the two types, the geyser capacity guide shows how to size a tank, and the geyser buying guide lists the other checks. The best geyser in India for your bathroom, kitchen, capacity and budget pulls the whole range into one guide.
If children or older parents share the home, read the safety features to look for in a geyser. If you are wondering whether a Rs. 579 immersion rod will do, geyser vs immersion rod compares the two. When to buy a geyser explains why to order before the cold arrives.
