The best geyser in India is the one that suits your bathroom, your family size and your budget. Two questions settle most of it: where will the geyser be fitted, and how many people will use it? For a family bathroom, a 15L or 25L storage geyser suits most homes, and a 10L is enough for one or two people. For a kitchen sink, a 3L instant geyser does the job. Water type, building height and price then narrow the list. This guide matches each situation to the Orient Electric geyser that fits it, so you can go from "which one?" to a short list in a few minutes.

How these geysers are grouped

Orient Electric makes geysers from 3L to 25L, and the right one depends on the home, not on a ranking. A 25L geyser is not better than a 3L one. It solves a different problem. So each section below starts with the situation and then names the geysers built for it. The five things that change what you feel at home are the size of the tank, the star rating, the tank coating, the building height the geyser is made for and the price.

Best geyser for the bathroom

A bathroom geyser has to give you enough hot water for the whole bath, and in winter it has to do that with colder tap water. Water coming in at 10 degrees takes much longer to heat than water at 25 degrees, so a size that felt fine in July can run short in January. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.

For most homes, a storage geyser is the right choice for the bathroom. It heats a full tank, holds the heat, and gives you steady hot water for a long bath and the bucket as well. An instant geyser can serve a small bathroom with quick washes, and the 5.5L and 5.9L models below are made for that. Our comparison of instant and storage geysers goes through the difference in detail. If you want the full list of bathroom options, see our top 10 geysers for the bathroom.

Everyday value: Enamour Classic Pro

The Enamour Classic Pro is a 5 star vertical geyser with a polymer coated tank and a nickel-coated heavy copper heating element. It is priced at Rs. 5,899 for 10L, Rs. 6,399 for 15L and Rs. 6,899 for 25L, which makes it the lowest-priced 5 star storage geyser in the range. It carries a 5 year warranty on the tank, 2 years on the element and 2 years overall. If your water is not very hard and you want a dependable geyser without extras, start here.

Added protection: Ecoswift Pro and Maverick

The Ecoswift Pro is a 4 star rust-proof geyser with a shockproof and splash-proof body, PUF insulation, an adjustable temperature knob and indicator lights for power and heating. It is priced at Rs. 7,320 for 10L, Rs. 7,750 for 15L and Rs. 8,750 for 25L, with a 5 year tank warranty. The Maverick is a 5 star geyser with a polymer coated tank, a pressure rating of up to 8 bar and a 27% thicker magnesium anode rod. It comes in 6L at Rs. 7,660, 10L at Rs. 7,940 and 25L at Rs. 9,570, so it also suits a guest bathroom or a one-person home.

Long-term durability: Aquator, Aquanova Neo and Aquator Neo

These three have glassline tanks, the better match for hard water, and they carry a 7 year warranty on the tank. The Aquator is a 5 star geyser for high-rise buildings, rated up to 8 bar, with free installation and connecting pipes. The 15L is priced at Rs. 8,315. The Aquanova Neo is a 5 star glassline geyser with a 6 year element warranty and free connecting pipes. It is priced at Rs. 8,550 for 10L, Rs. 8,860 for 15L and Rs. 10,020 for 25L. The Aquator Neo adds an Ultra Diamond Glassline tank, a Duron heating element and a 5-in-1 safety shield, with free installation. It is priced at Rs. 9,780 for 10L, Rs. 10,840 for 15L and Rs. 11,840 for 25L.

Smart control: Aquator IoT

The Aquator IoT is a 5 star glassline geyser you control from the Orient Smart app, with Eco, Smart and Manual modes, a touch LED temperature display and 5-level safety protection. The 15L is priced at Rs. 10,525. It suits a household that likes to switch the geyser on from bed on a cold morning. Our pieces on how smart geysers work and why a Wi-Fi geyser helps in winter explain what you get.

Limited wall space: Aquaslim Horizontal

The Aquaslim Horizontal lies flat instead of standing tall, which helps when the wall under a loft or above a window leaves no height. It is a 3 star geyser with a glass-lined tank, a 7 year tank warranty and a left or right inlet. The 15L is priced at Rs. 9,120. Compare horizontal geysers and vertical geysers to see which suits your wall.

Best geyser for the kitchen

A kitchen needs a little hot water, quickly, at the sink. Washing greasy steel plates in cold water on a winter morning is no fun. A 3L instant geyser heats water as it flows, so there is no tank to wait for, and you do not need to run a large geyser for two minutes of dishwashing.

•      Aquapro 3L is priced at Rs. 2,499, the lowest price in our instant range. See the Aquapro.

•      Primus 3L is made for kitchens and rated up to 8 bar. It is priced at Rs. 3,810. See the Primus.

•      Instaflo Neo 3L has a 6 year tank warranty and suits low and mid rise buildings. It is priced at Rs. 3,199. See the Instaflo Neo.

•      Instaflo 3L has the same 6 year tank warranty and comes with free installation. It is priced at Rs. 4,430. See the Instaflo.

•      Rapidus 5.5L is the step up when the sink and a small wash area share one geyser. It is priced at Rs. 4,800. See the Rapidus.

Our instant geysers use a 3000W element, so the socket and wiring should be rated for that load. Ask an electrician to check them before installation. Our top 5 instant geysers for the kitchen covers placement and picks in detail, and why a kitchen needs an instant geyser explains the benefits.

Small bathroom or utility area: Calidus Pro and Aura Rapid Pro

When a 3L tank feels too small, the Calidus Pro 5.5L is priced at Rs. 3,349 and the Aura Rapid Pro 5.9L at Rs. 3,699. The Aura Rapid Pro is made as a bathroom geyser. Both suit quick washes, a guest bathroom or a utility sink. For long family baths, choose a storage geyser. If you cannot decide between sizes, read our 3L vs 5L instant geyser comparison.

Best geyser for your water, building and bill

If you have hard water

Hard water leaves scale on the heating element and tank, and over the years it makes the geyser slower and less efficient. A glassline tank has a layer of glass fused onto the steel, which keeps the water away from bare metal. The Aquator, Aquanova Neo, Aquator Neo, Aquator IoT and Aquaslim Horizontal all have glassline tanks, and you can see them together under glassline geysers. We explain the choice in glassline vs polymer coated tanks, and our guides on choosing a geyser for hard water and how hard water damages a geyser show the signs to watch for.

If you live in a high-rise flat

Water pressure changes with floor height, so the geyser has to be built for it. The Aquator, Aquator Neo and Aquator IoT are rated for up to 8 bar, and the Primus is the instant geyser rated for 8 bar. The Instaflo, Instaflo Neo and Rapidus suit low and mid rise buildings. Our guide to geysers for high-rise buildings explains how floor height affects the choice.

If you want a lower electricity bill

Look at the star rating first. The Enamour Classic Pro, Maverick, Aquator, Aquanova Neo, Aquator Neo and Aquator IoT are 5 star. The Ecoswift Pro is 4 star and the Aquaslim Horizontal is 3 star. A star rating measures how little heat a full tank loses while it sits idle, so it counts most in a home that keeps the geyser on every day. We explain what the rating means for your bill in 3 star vs 5 star geysers, and how geyser power consumption is calculated shows how to work out your own units.

Choosing a geyser for winter

Winter changes the maths. In north India and the hill states, tap water in January can be very cold, and the geyser has to lift it a long way before it reaches your bath. A full tank of hot water is mixed with cold water until it feels right, so one tank gives you more than its size in bath-temperature water. How much more depends on the tap.

20 degrees C

About 17 litres

About 26 litres

About 44 litres

Worked example: tank set to 55 degrees C, bath at 40 degrees C, no heat lost. Real use gives a little less.

A bucket bath takes about 20 litres of bath-temperature water. So on a 10 degree morning, a 15L tank covers about one bath and a 25L tank about two. If your family bathes one after another, go one size up: 25L instead of 15L, or 15L instead of 10L. In milder parts of the country, the size you would pick for summer is usually fine. Two habits help everywhere. Switch the geyser on a little before you need hot water, and set the thermostat to a comfortable level instead of the maximum. With the Aquator IoT you can do the first from the app before you get out of bed. More ideas are in five ways to lower your winter water heating bill.

Installing and looking after your geyser

A geyser sits in the wettest room of the house, so installation matters as much as the model. Have a qualified electrician fit it, check the earthing and add an ELCB or RCCB. Use a socket and wiring rated for the geyser, and give it its own circuit where you can. The Aquator, Aquator Neo, Aquator IoT and Instaflo come with free installation, so you can use that service. Orient Electric also suggests a yearly service: flush the tank, check the magnesium anode rod and clean the heating element, more often in hard water areas.

Switch the geyser off before you bathe, and never touch the switch with wet hands. Our step-by-step guide to using a geyser safely covers the routine. If your old geyser has started to leak or heat slowly, our notes on common geyser problems and the signs it is time to replace it help you decide. If you are weighing gas against electric, read gas geyser vs electric geyser. Our geyser buying guide and storage geyser buying guide walk through the other decisions. Wattage and wiring are explained in 2kW vs 3kW geysers.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Which geyser is best for a home?

A: It depends on the room and the people using it. For a family bathroom, a 15L storage geyser such as the Aquator or Aquanova Neo suits most homes of three or four people. For a kitchen sink, a 3L instant geyser such as the Aquapro or Primus is enough. Pick the room first and the model second.

Q: Which geyser is best for a family of four?

A: A 15L geyser works when baths are spread across the morning. A 25L geyser is the safer choice when two people bathe back to back or when winter water is very cold. The Aquanova Neo, Aquator Neo and Enamour Classic Pro all come in 25L.

Q: Which geyser is best for hard water?

A: Choose a glassline tank. The Aquator, Aquanova Neo, Aquator Neo and Aquator IoT all have one. Flushing the tank once a year keeps scale under control, whatever the model.

Q: Is a 5 star geyser worth it?

A: In our range, usually yes, because the 5 star models do not cost much more. The Enamour Classic Pro is a 5 star geyser priced from Rs. 5,899, which is lower than the 4 star Ecoswift Pro at Rs. 7,320. A 5 star geyser loses less heat while idle, which adds up when it runs every day through winter.

Q: Which geyser suits a high-rise flat?

A: Choose a model rated for higher pressure. The Aquator, Aquator Neo and Aquator IoT are rated for up to 8 bar and suit high-rise buildings. The Instaflo, Instaflo Neo and Rapidus suit low and mid rise buildings.

Q: Can one geyser serve both the kitchen and the bathroom?

A: Only if the two are close together. A long pipe run cools the water before it reaches the tap and wastes a lot of cold water first. Most homes do better with a storage geyser in the bathroom and a separate 3L instant geyser at the kitchen sink.

Q: Do Orient Electric geysers come with installation?

A: Several do. The Aquator, Aquator Neo, Aquator IoT and Instaflo come with free installation. The Aquanova Neo and Aquaslim Horizontal come with free connecting pipes. For the geysers with free installation, call the number shown in the offer details after delivery to book the service.
