A 15 litre geyser is the right size for most homes of three or four people when baths are spread across the morning. Seven Orient Electric 15L geysers are priced from Rs. 6,399 to Rs. 10,840, and the gap between them is not random. Each step up in price adds something specific: a glassline tank, a higher pressure rating, a longer warranty or app control. This guide shows what each step adds, so you pay only for what your home needs.

Why two 15 litre geysers cost so differently?

The cheapest and the dearest 15L geyser in our range are Rs. 4,441 apart. That gap comes from four things, and it helps to know which of them your home needs.

•      The tank coating. The Enamour Classic Pro and Ecoswift Pro have polymer coated tanks. The Aquator, Aquanova Neo, Aquaslim Horizontal, Aquator IoT and Aquator Neo have glassline tanks, the better match for hard water. The glassline vs polymer coated comparison goes through the difference, and our guide to choosing a geyser for hard water explains why scale matters.

•      The pressure rating. The Aquator, Aquator IoT and Aquator Neo are rated up to 8 bar, which matters on upper floors, where water arrives at a different pressure than on the ground floor. Read about geysers for high-rise buildings before you pick for a tall building.

•      The warranty. Tank warranty runs from 5 years on the Enamour Classic Pro to 7 years on the glassline models. Element warranty runs from 2 years on the Enamour Classic Pro, to 4 years on the Aquator and Aquator IoT, to 6 years on the Aquanova Neo and Aquator Neo.

•      The extras. App control on the Aquator IoT, and horizontal mounting on the Aquaslim Horizontal.

Pay for the ones you will use. A flat on the 14th floor with hard water needs the first two. A couple in a ground-floor home with soft water may need none of them.

Which 15 litre geyser fits your home?

•      A couple, one bathroom, bucket baths. The Enamour Classic Pro at Rs. 6,399 is where to start. It is the lowest-priced 15L in the range and still a 5 star geyser.

•      A family of four on an upper floor, with hard water. The Aquator at Rs. 8,315 covers both problems with a glassline tank, a rating of up to 8 bar and free installation. For the long run, the Aquator Neo adds a 6 year element warranty.

•      A bathroom with a low loft or a window above the wall. The Aquaslim Horizontal lies flat where a standing tank will not fit. Choose the inlet side to match your pipes, and compare horizontal geysers with vertical geysers first.

•      A household that likes to switch things on from the sofa. The Aquator IoT lets you control the geyser from your phone, with Eco, Smart and Manual modes and a touch LED display. Whether the extra money is worth it depends on how you live. Our piece on smart geysers in winter helps you decide.

•      A buyer who wants a rust-proof build. The Ecoswift Pro has a rust-proof body, a 5 year tank warranty and indicator lights for power and heating.

•      A buyer who wants glassline without the top-end price. The Aquanova Neo gives you a glassline tank, a 5 star rating and free connecting pipes at Rs. 8,860.

Close calls, settled

Aquator or Aquanova Neo?

They are only Rs. 545 apart (Rs. 8,315 against Rs. 8,860). Both are 5 star glassline geysers with a 7 year tank warranty. The Aquator is rated up to 8 bar and has a 4 year element warranty. The Aquanova Neo has a 6 year element warranty and an Incoloy element. For a tall building, take the Aquator. For the longest element cover, take the Aquanova Neo.

Aquator or Aquator Neo?

Both are 5 star, rated up to 8 bar and covered for 7 years on the tank. The Aquator Neo costs Rs. 2,525 more (Rs. 10,840 against Rs. 8,315). For that you get a Duron element with a non-stick coating, a 6 year element warranty against 4, and an Ultra Diamond Glassline tank. If your water is very hard and you plan to keep the geyser for many years, that is the reason to pay. If not, the Aquator is better value.

Aquator or Aquator IoT?

They share the same warranty (7 years on the tank, 4 on the element, 2 overall) and the same pressure rating. The Aquator IoT costs Rs. 2,210 more and adds app control, Eco, Smart and Manual modes and a touch LED temperature display. Pick it if you will use those features every day.

Enamour Classic Pro or Ecoswift Pro?

Both are polymer coated and carry a 5 year tank warranty. The Enamour Classic Pro is 5 star and costs Rs. 1,351 less. The Ecoswift Pro is 4 star and adds Whirlflow technology, a rust-proof body and indicator lights. Choose on what matters to you: the rating and the price, or the build.

A standing 15L or the Aquaslim Horizontal?

Pick the Aquaslim Horizontal for the wall, not for the rating. It is a 3 star geyser, so it makes sense when there is no height for a standing tank.

What a 15 litre tank gives you in winter

A 15L tank holds 15 litres of hot water, but you never bathe in water that hot. You mix it with cold water until it feels right, so one tank gives you more than 15 litres at bath temperature. How much more depends on how cold your tap water is, which is why the same geyser feels generous in October and tight in January.

Tap water temperature

Bath-temperature water from one full tank

10 degrees C, a cold north Indian winter morning

About 22 litres

15 degrees C

About 24 litres

20 degrees C

About 26 litres

25 degrees C, a mild day in the south

About 30 litres

Worked example: the tank is set to 55 degrees C, you bathe at 40 degrees C, and no heat is lost. The sum is 15 x (55 minus the tap temperature) divided by (40 minus the tap temperature). Real use gives a little less.

When the tap is close to 10 degrees, a 15L suits a couple or a small family with baths spread out. If two or more people bathe back to back, move to a 25 litre geyser and read why a 25L geyser suits a family of four. The two sizes are set against each other in 15 litre vs 25 litre. For smaller homes, 10 litre geysers are enough. Our geyser capacity guide explains how bucket baths and showers change the sums, and how geyser power consumption is calculated shows what a 15L costs to run.

A full 15L tank also puts 15 kg of water on the wall. Fit it on a solid wall with the bracket and fasteners that come with the geyser, and have a technician check the wall if it is hollow or panelled.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can one 15 litre geyser serve two bathrooms?

A: Only if the two bathrooms share a wall or sit very close together. Water cools in a long pipe, and you waste a lot of cold water waiting for the hot to arrive. A 15L tank also empties fast when two bathrooms run at once. Most homes do better with one geyser per bathroom, and a 10L or a 3L instant geyser suits a second bathroom or a kitchen well.

Q: Does a 15 litre geyser run out faster in winter?

A: Yes. Colder tap water means more hot water has to go into each bath, so the tank gives you fewer litres at bath temperature. A full 15L tank gives about 30 litres at a 25 degree tap and about 22 litres at 10 degrees. If winter tap water is very cold and baths come back to back, consider 25L.

Q: Why do 15 litre geysers have such different prices?

A: Four things set the price: the tank coating, the pressure rating, the warranty and extras such as app control. The Enamour Classic Pro at Rs. 6,399 and the Aquator Neo at Rs. 10,840 are both 5 star, so the gap is not about the star rating. It is about how hard your water is, how tall your building is and how long you want the tank and element covered.

Q: Can I replace my old geyser with a 15 litre model without redoing the plumbing?

A: Often yes, but check where the inlet and outlet sit, the bracket position on the wall and the length of the pipes. The Aquator, Aquator IoT, Aquator Neo and Aquanova Neo come with connecting pipes, and the Aquaslim Horizontal comes with left and right inlet versions to match your plumbing. A technician can confirm the fit on site. If your old geyser is showing its age, see the signs it is time to replace it.

Q: Our family has grown to five. Should we replace the 15L or add a second geyser?

A: If you have a second bathroom, add a smaller geyser there and keep the 15L. If everyone shares one bathroom, move up to 25L so back-to-back baths do not run cold.

Q: Which 15 litre geyser is the best value?

A: For the lowest price, the Enamour Classic Pro at Rs. 6,399 is a 5 star geyser. For a glassline tank, a rating of up to 8 bar and a 7 year tank warranty at the lowest price, the Aquator at Rs. 8,315. Pay more only for what you will use: app control on the Aquator IoT, horizontal mounting on the Aquaslim Horizontal or the 6 year element warranty on the Aquator Neo.
