Choose a glassline tank if you want the longer cover and the stronger protection, and a polymer-coated tank if you want a 5 star geyser at the lowest price. Both are good storage geysers. Orient Electric covers a polymer-coated tank for 5 years and its glassline tanks for 7 years, and the cheapest glassline geyser costs about Rs. 1,900 to Rs. 3,100 more than the cheapest polymer-coated one, depending on size. This guide explains how each tank is built, what the warranty and price tell you, and which one suits your home.

How each tank is built

Glassline tank

A glassline tank has a layer of glass fused onto the inner steel surface. The glass sits between the steel and the water, so the water never touches bare metal. Orient Electric uses Ultra Diamond Glassline on the Aquator Neo, and pairs the glass lining with a thick magnesium anode rod. Some models go further. The Aquaslim Horizontal also has a glass-coated heating element.

Polymer-coated tank

A polymer-coated tank has a plastic-based layer on the inner steel surface instead of glass. The Maverick has a high-strength polymer-coated tank, paired with a nickel-coated heavy copper heating element and a magnesium anode rod that is 27% thicker. In the Orient Electric range, the polymer-coated geysers are also the lower-priced ones.

Either way, the coating is one part of the geyser. The heating element, the anode rod and the safety valve matter as much.

What each tank means for hard water and durability

If your tap water leaves white scale on taps and steel, start with a glassline model. The glass lining isolates the steel from the water, and that is why we recommend our glassline range for hard water. Our guide to choosing a geyser for hard water and our piece on how hard water damages a geyser cover scale, anode rods and servicing in full.

If your water is soft or only mildly hard, a polymer-coated tank is a cost-effective choice. In both cases, the anode rod and a yearly service matter.

Does tank type change heating speed or weight?

Not in any dependable way. How fast a geyser heats depends on the power of the element, not on the tank lining. Weight depends on the model, not the tank type. From the 10L specifications, the polymer-coated Enamour Classic Pro weighs 6.6 kg, the glassline Aquanova Neo weighs 7.9 kg and the polymer-coated Ecoswift Pro weighs 8.4 kg. So choose a tank type for protection, cover and price, not for speed or weight.

The warranty view: price per year of tank cover

Orient Electric gives a 5 year tank warranty on its polymer-coated geysers and a 7 year tank warranty on its glassline geysers. Element warranty differs too: 2 years on the polymer-coated Enamour Classic Pro and Maverick, against 4 years on the Aquator and Aquator IoT and 6 years on the Aquanova Neo and Aquator Neo. A simple way to compare is the price for each year of tank cover. The table does this for the 15L geysers in stock.

Every polymer-coated geyser in our range is 5 star or 4 star, so choosing polymer does not mean giving up efficiency. Star rating and tank type are separate choices. We explain the rating in 3 star vs 5 star geysers. Compare all glassline geysers with the full storage geyser range.

Which tank suits your home

Your home

Pick

Hard water, and you plan to keep the geyser for years

Glassline, such as the Aquator or Aquanova Neo

A tall building and hard water

The Aquator Neo or Aquator, both rated up to 8 bar

Soft water, and the lowest 5 star price

Polymer coated, such as the Enamour Classic Pro

Soft water and a guest bathroom

Polymer coated, such as the Maverick in 6L

A wall with no height for a standing tank

The Aquaslim Horizontal, which has a glass-lined tank

A rust-proof build and indicator lights

Frequently asked questions

Q: Which geyser tank is better, glassline or polymer coated?

A: For hard water and a long stay, glassline is the better choice, and it carries a 7 year tank warranty against 5 years on the polymer-coated geysers. For soft water and a lower price, polymer coated is a good fit. Neither heats faster than the other.

Q: Is a glassline tank good for hard water?

A: Yes. A glass layer sits between the steel and the water, which is why we recommend our glassline range for hard water. Servicing still matters, so descale the tank and check the anode rod once a year. Our hard water guide has the full checklist.

Q: What is a polymer coating on a geyser tank?

A: It is a plastic-based layer on the inner steel surface that keeps the water away from bare metal. The Maverick has a high-strength polymer-coated tank, and the Enamour Classic Pro and Ecoswift Pro are polymer-coated geysers with a 5 year tank warranty.

Q: Does the tank type change how fast a geyser heats water?

A: No. Heating speed depends on the power of the element, so a glassline and a polymer-coated geyser with the same element heat at the same speed. The tank lining affects protection and cover, not speed.

Q: Which tank lasts longer?

A: No maker can promise a number of years, as it depends on your water, your servicing and your use. Orient Electric backs glassline tanks for 7 years and polymer-coated tanks for 5, which shows how long each is covered. Flush the tank, check the anode rod each year and use the geyser safely, as our geyser safety guide explains.
