Know More About the Irons under ₹1,000 ▾

An iron box for clothes under ₹1,000 is usually a dry iron. It has a heated soleplate and no water tank, so it presses creases out with heat and weight. That makes it light, simple and cheap to look after. All six of our irons in this price band are non-stick dry irons.

Start by deciding:

  • The fabrics you iron. Cotton and linen need high heat, while silk and synthetics need less.
  • The weight. A light iron is easier on your wrist during a long session.
  • The temperature control. A dial or controller lets you match the heat to the fabric.
  • The cord. A long swivel cord gives you room to move without twisting.
  • The safety features. Look for a thermal fuse and a thermostat.

750W or 1000W: which iron should you choose?

A higher wattage generally heats up faster and recovers heat faster as you iron. A 750W iron is fine for light, occasional use. A 1000W or 1100W iron suits regular ironing of cotton, linen and thicker clothes. All six of our irons are 1000W or above.

Dry iron or steam iron under ₹1,000?

A dry iron is the simpler choice in this price band: no water, no scale and very little upkeep. A steam iron adds steam for deep creases and thick fabrics.

Feature Dry iron Steam iron
How it works Heat and pressure Heat, pressure and steam from a water tank
Best for Everyday cotton and linen, simple ironing Thick fabrics and stubborn creases
Water needed No Yes, distilled or demineralised
Upkeep Wipe the soleplate Empty the tank, remove scale

Our steam iron starts at ₹1,099, just above this budget. See our steam irons if you want steam.

How much electricity does a 1000W iron use?

Units used in an hour equal the wattage divided by 1000. At an example rate of ₹8 per unit, the cost works out like this. Your actual rate depends on your location/state.

Ironing time 1000W iron 1100W iron
30 minutes 0.5 units, ₹4.00 0.55 units, ₹4.40
1 hour 1 unit, ₹8.00 1.1 units, ₹8.80

An iron cycles its heating on and off to hold the set temperature, so real use is usually lower than these full-power figures.

Which heat setting should you use?

Always follow the care label on the garment. As a general guide for a dry iron:

Fabric Heat
Cotton and linen High
Wool and viscose Medium
Silk and silk sarees Low to medium, with a thin cloth between iron and fabric
Synthetics Low

How do you use and care for a dry iron?

  • Set the temperature for the fabric and wait for the iron to heat up.
  • Iron on a flat, steady surface, and keep the cord away from the hot soleplate.
  • Unplug the iron when you stop, even for a short break.
  • Let it cool fully before you wipe the soleplate with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Store it upright, and do not wrap the cord tightly around the hot iron.
