Know More About the Best Quartz Room Heater ▾

A quartz room heater has its heating element inside a quartz glass tube. When you switch it on, the tube glows orange and gives out infrared heat. That heat warms you and the things in front of the heater directly, so you feel warm quickly, without waiting for the whole room to heat up. There is no fan or motor inside, so it runs silently.

Start by deciding:

  • How close you will sit. A quartz heater works best at about 1 to 2 metres.
  • How much space you want to warm. It is made for spot heating, not for a large hall.
  • Whether you will move it. A light heater is easier to carry from the study to the bedroom.
  • How long you will use it. Two heat settings let you use less power once you feel warm.

Is an 800W quartz heater enough?

An 800W quartz heater is enough for spot heating: one or two people sitting or sleeping within a couple of metres. In a small, closed room it also warms the space gradually. It is not meant for a large hall or a room with open doors and windows. For those, look at higher-wattage blower heaters or oil-filled radiators.

Quartz heater or blower heater: which suits you?

Choose by the space you want to warm. A quartz heater is for spot heating. A blower heater moves warm air and heats a larger room more evenly.

Feature Quartz heater Blower (fan) heater
How it heats Radiant heat on you and nearby objects Warm air blown into the room
Best for One person or a small group, 1 to 2 metres away A larger room
Noise Silent, no fan Fan noise
Time to feel warm Within moments, close to the heater Gradual, as the room warms

Where does a quartz heater work best?

  • Beside a study or work desk, facing your legs
  • Next to a sofa or reading chair
  • At the side of the bed, to warm the room before you sleep
  • In a small closed room, such as a study or a guest room

How much electricity does a quartz heater use?

An 800W heater uses 0.8 units of electricity in one hour on its high setting, and 0.4 units on the 400W setting. At an example rate of ₹8 per unit, the cost works out like this. Your actual rate depends on your location/state, so check your latest bill.

Setting Units used per hour Cost for 1 hour Cost for 4 hours
400W 0.4 ₹3.20 ₹12.80
800W 0.8 ₹6.40 ₹25.60

Start on 800W, then drop to 400W once the area around you feels warm.

What to check before buying a quartz room heater online

  • Heat settings. Two settings let you match the heat to the weather.
  • Tip-over protection. The heater switches off by itself if it falls.
  • Safety grill. It keeps fingers and objects away from the hot tube.
  • ISI approval and warranty. Stark and Instahot are ISI approved and come with a 1-year warranty.
  • Weight and size. A light heater is easier to carry between rooms.
  • Power socket. Use a wall socket that suits the heater's load, and avoid long chains of extension boards.

How do you use a quartz heater safely?

  • Keep about 1 metre of clear space around the heater. Curtains, bedding, clothes and papers should stay well away.
  • Place it on a flat, steady floor.
  • Do not dry clothes on it or cover it.
  • Do not use it in a bathroom or any damp place.
  • Switch it off and unplug it when you leave the room or go to sleep.
